Leave a Legacy through Planned Giving

Please Consider a Legacy to the Hope Fund.

Gifts made to Rowan Helping Ministries go into the Hope Fund which is dedicated to continuing our services for the future. The fund is named for Hope Uzzell who made the first major bequest to Rowan Helping Ministries in 1996. The Hope Fund is now our primary contingency against major shortfalls in gifts that inevitably occur.

Why Include Rowan Helping Ministries in Your Will?

Our mission is to put God’s love into action by serving our neighbors in Rowan County who need food, shelter, clothing and financial assistance. Then, we empower people with the education necessary to make life improving actions.

Our volunteers prepare over 8,000 meals in our kitchen and distribute over 50,000 pounds of food to individuals each month. We give shelter to about 85 men, women and children every night with several families living in our facility. At the same time, Rowan Helping Ministries provides life skills classes to about 80 different individuals each month to help them find and maintain employment.

To continue to do all of this, we need your help. Over 94 percent of our budget goes directly to serving our clients, so we are extremely frugal with the funds that we receive. However, gifts and grants from individuals, businesses, foundations, and governments can no longer be assured. We need contributions from people like yourself to maintain our services.

There are many types of planned gifts to choose from to help you meet your philanthropic and financial goals. You can make a gift from your will/trust, of publicly traded securities, real estate, or other assets. Retirement plan assets or life insurance policies may be better options in some cases. Consult your attorney or tax advisor to determine the best planned giving method for your situation.

If you are not prepared to put Rowan Helping Ministries in your will, can we count on you to make a pledge?

Please contact Kyna S. Grubb at kgrubb@rowanhelpingministries.org or 704-637-6838, Ext. 101.

We recommend that you speak with your attorney or financial planner about Planned Giving opportunities.

Types of Planned Gifts

Bequest

A gift from you or from a trust allows you to make a future gift to your fund at Rowan Helping Ministries. This is the simplest way to provide for your community and may reduce your estate tax liability. The sample bequest language below is provided to assist donors and their attorneys in making gifts to a fund at Rowan Helping Ministries. Please consult your attorney before executing a new will or a codicil to your existing will.

Specific Bequest

I give to ROWAN HELPING MINISTRIES, a North Carolina corporation, the sum of __________ dollar and n./100 ($_______), in cash or in kind ( could include a stated percentage or fraction of estate) to be used to create an endowed fund, known as the JOHN SMITH ENDOWED FUND, and used for the charitable objects and purposes as set forth in the Charter of Rowan Helping Ministries, which purposes are by this reference incorporated herein.

Residuary Bequest

I give to ROWAN HELPING MINISTRIES, a North Carolina corporation, the residue of my _________and used for the charitable objects and purposes as set forth in the Charter of Rowan Helping Ministries, which purposes are by this reference incorporated herein.

Retirement Plan Assets

Retirement plan assets may be ideal assets for use in meeting philanthropic goals because they can be subject to various layers of taxation upon death, including estate and income tax. Making a future gift of retirement plan assets to your fund at Rowan Helping Ministries may reduce your estate tax liability, while allowing you to leave to other beneficiaries (i.e. your descendants) assets that receive more favorable treatment.

Life Insurance Policies

You may use one or more life insurance policies to make a future gift to Rowan Helping Ministries. To use a life insurance policy to make a gift to Rowan Helping Ministries, you would name Rowan Helping Ministries as the beneficiary of a new or existing policy or transfer ownership of a new or existing policy to Rowan Helping Ministries.

Non-Cash Assets

Rowan Helping Ministries has the capacity to evaluate and accept non-cash assets, including publicly traded securities, mutual funds, real property, and business interests.
